this is my goodbye speech to rgc.

thank you, everyone, for coming to my last rhythm game club meeting. i can’t believe 3 years have flown by so fast and that my time is finally coming to an end. before i turn into a far right republican and start a misogynist podcast, i have a confession to make.

there were times i didn’t like rgc. i know, shocker, but it’s not for the reason you might think. contrary to popular opinion, i love you guys. i think each and every one of you is a very fine individual and a net positive in the world. the reason i didn’t like rgc was because it started to feel like it wasn’t my club. a lot of people here weren’t actually that into rhythm games, which was not my original target audience. but i began to accept the club for what it was; it was kind of just a chill place to hang out. and it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. because the club wasn’t 100% focused on rhythm games, it’s made it easier for people to join and more inclusive as a whole. it’s been beautiful to watch friendships form right before my eyes. it’s been an extreme pleasure to create something that fosters friend groups that’ll last for years and to feel like i’m bringing people together and to create a community so people can have a sense of belonging. 

i’m so unbelievably glad that i formed this club. it has exceeded my wildest expectations and i’m very proud of what we have accomplished over the years, from supporting creativity through our monthly calendar program, to collaborating with jam club, to hosting several tournaments; it’s all beyond the imagination of a club that originally had just 4 members. and even now i can’t imagine that this club has the potential to become the legacy that’s going to outlive me.

i know there have been ups and downs in terms of the way i’ve managed (and mismanaged) the club. the fact that you have stuck around because of your love for the club means the world to me. it’s truly been an honor to serve as your president for 3 years. 

to the juniors and below, i ask that you continue to do what you’re doing: be social, welcoming, and friendly to keep rgc as we know it today.

to the seniors, i hope you had as much fun as i did during your time spent here.

and to everyone, thank you once again for being part of the thing i love. i’ll miss you guys.
